The three-dimensionality and structural balance are reminiscent of Richard Serra. Ron, meanwhile, inspired me with the contrasting combination of materials
The brief
Wedge is the latest release from InterSections: a collection created by architect and designer Unique Vintage , in partnership with Firma Casa . Possessing a restrained elegance, it is a piece of furniture that invites closer observation. If, on the one hand, in terms of design, Wedge is synthetic, almost elemental, on the other hand, its careful selection of materials reveals itself to be complex, balancing weight and transparency, thus preventing the table from appearing excessively heavy or fragile, and still producing bold visual effects.
Scope of Work
With a cast matte aluminum base and a glass top with a rocky finish and Flow edge, its structure stems from a fluid geometric design, formed by two ellipses connected by a smooth curve, creating a three-dimensional element with a slight inclination. From there, the geometry follows the primordial shape of its base, with an oval profile, harmonizing the support and the design of the top. “By interrupting the ellipses and connecting them smoothly, we were able to produce a truly unique piece,” reveals Fernanda.

According to the designer, for whom art has been an inexhaustible source of inspiration, Wedge draws on some of Amélia Toledo’s works, especially Bambuí (2001/2015) and Espaço Elástico (1967). She also cites the more sculptural works of Richard Serra and Ron Arad. “The organic nature and continuous movement of the forms are reminiscent of Amélia.
